The following hints will help you avoid breakdowns and provide suggestions for troubleshooting furnace problems.

Replace

• Replace standard 1" furnace filters every 2 months
• Replace Media filter every 6-12 months
• Replace Totaline electronic filter every 4-6 months
• Replace year round if you have an air conditioner
• Replace Broan HEPA prefilters every 6 months and main filter every year

Protect and Maintain

• Clear snow away from PVC intake and exhaust for furnace
• During winter, cover air conditioner with plywood to keep out snow and ice
• Keep grass and shrubbery low around your air conditioner
• Wash air exchanger filters every 6 months
• Schedule a cleaning and check-up on your entire system every year (some warranties become void if this is not done)

Smart Ideas

If you have zoned heating, make sure doors stay closed between basement and first and second floor rooms. It will operate better for you.

Furnace Malfunctions

• Check level of LP gas or oil
• Confirm that the fuse on the side of the furnace is good
• Clear outside pipes of ice and snow
• Confirm thermostat batteries are good
